People who craft a lot with paper often have many interesting papers laying around, but mostly scrap you can only make cards from.
But now I found a tutorial on how to make mini recycle bin books, which I find great!
Soon I will have to comb through my piles ;-))

If you want to make Altered Books or Artist Books, or maybe book purses, or you want possibly remove individual book pages to make a beautiful card, then the tutorial on how to easily remove pages from books may be helpful: you moist a thread, lay it into the book at the place where you want to remove a page, close the book firmly, so that the moisture can enter the paper and then you can tear the paper cleanly.
It’s the same principle as for tearing paper, but here the moist line is certainly straight and much thinner.

I always found flip books fascinating, therefore I had to present an instruction on how to make it youself from your own film.
I really must try it one day ;-)
Accidentally I found a way of making beautiful coloured background papers from tissue paper or paper napkins and markers.
That’s what you have to do:
First I cut the tissue paper in pieces of about 6×6 cm (roughly 2,5×2,5 inches).
I painted them (through all layers) with colour matching markers.
It doesn’t matter if there are little white areas.
I layed the coloured pieces out on plastic foil (e.g. an unused garbage bag) and moisted them with water.
The water makes the colours bleed wonderfully.
It is best to add the water dropwise, this way you can determine best how much water you add (if it gets too wet, the colours bleeds too much and doesn’t stay on the tissue paper).
In the end I let dry the coloured squares.
When using them for cardmaking, I mostly only use two or three layers, not all of them.
But you have to try this by yourself.
Here I show two hand embroidered postcard sized wallhangings (just like the Paper Crazy Quilt) I worked with self coloured tissue papers. Both tissue papers are layers of the same paper (you can see that they have the same pattern), but the different coloured background papers make them glow differently.
Once I used the same technique on fabric (an old (clean! ;-)) bedsheet) and it worked.
The next time I added too much water and suddenly everything was of the same dull colour. ;-)
I think that this colour can be heat set just as the acryl coloured or the crayon tinted fabric, but I haven’t tried it yet.

Paper Crazy Quilt
Sometimes you need a nice background and I recommend the Tartan Maker for all those who like Tartan patterns.
On the picture I tried to make a Tartan which matches the blog.

Soon you will need nice ornaments for New Year’s Eve and I find the paper flower ornaments cute.
On the photo you see a snap try (very fast, but not very accurate ;-)) with plain wrapping paper which is coloured at one side only: I suggest that you do no such thing!
First the paper is much too thin, therefore the ornaments don’t look so beautifully rounded as the originals.
Second is the fact, that the paper is printed on one side only silly: If you follow the instruction properly you get half a coloured and half a white flower.
Third it helps to work accurately, then the flower doesn’t look so messed up ;-))

Browsing flickr I found two scans from an old craft book: the Lantern Ornaments and the instructions for the ornaments.
I haven’t tried them yet, but I really like them.

A lenticular image is an image that looks different depending on how you look at it.
photojojo published a tutorial on how to make such an image.

I just have to print the picture, to cut it, fold it, stuff it into the frame … ;-))
By the way, I ‘cut’ the pictures in stripes with the help of Splitz, a little freeware program. That was faster ;-) (Links see below)

Once I’ve seen somewhere (but I don’t remember, where ;-() how somebody made an embroidery hoop from magazine paper.
On the photo you see how it looks. I used quite stiff advertising paper and the hoop became very robust.
This way I can make fast and cheap embroidery hoops in different sizes :)

That’s what you do:
Select appropriate paper sheets.
Roll and fold the paper sheets to paper strips of equal width (see tutorial here).
Coil one paper strip firm around the glass and fix with tape.
Tape the hoop very well.
Slip the hoop over the glass again and coil the second strip of paper very firmly around the first hoop, tape very well, too.
These are both hoops, one can be slipped exactly over the other.
Put the fabric into the embroidery hoop and embroider.
I didn’t iron the fabric, but it’s firmly tightened into the hoop.
That’s the way everything looks from the backside.
