Shisha Stitch

PinTangle Shisha Stitch

I found a tutorial on how to sew on Shisha mirrors in the blog which is the sequel of In a Minute Ago.
The best of this technique is, that you can use it to sew on other items, too, such as coins e.g.
I really must try it sometime.

Lamar Scarf

unikatissima Lamar Scarf

Via ravelry I found the instruction on how to make the Lamar scarf which I find great!
On the photo you see the beginning of the scarf I’m knitting at the moment (that’s all I’ve knitted for now ;-))).
She made her scarf in a chunky, soft yarn, I’m using thickish (about needle size 5) acrylic yarn.
Usually I’m knitting much too loose, my knitted scarves are mostly quite see-through and they have to be wound several times around a neck to warm.
This here will stand alone when finished ;-))
But I’m knitting it for myself and therefore I can live with it – anyhow I find it beautiful.
By the way, I’m knitting it in black, but I fiercely post-worked the photo to show more than just a black shape ;-)

Spinner

Laurie Gatlin Spinner

Today I present a tutorial on how to make a spinner tutorial on how to make a spinner, which actually is meant for an Altered Book, but which can be used as well for a greeting card.

You can e.g. make a card for Valentine and write ‘I love you’ in different languages or make a gift coupon card with pictures of different plants and the beneficiary may select one of them, etc.

Mosaic Table Light

bastelfanatiker Window Colour Mosaic

I found an instruction on how to make glass table lights with translucent mosaic. They are made in an interesting and easy way with Window Colours*, but of course you can do this with translucent polymer clay as well.

* Window Colours are those glass paints that come in plastic bottles and can be used on acetate, I don’t know the exact English name.

That’s how they do it:
(see images on instruction site for better understanding)

  • You make from the glass paint a layer of about 1 mm on plastic foil and let it dry thoroughly.
  • When dry and not sticky anymore (after about 3 days), you cut it in mosaic pieces.
  • You can glue now the pieces on glass (with Modpodge e.g.).
  • Fill the little gaps between the mosaic tile with tile filler (follow the instructions).
  • Afterwards you can cover your glass with varnish to make it shine.

One day then… Sigh.

Extreme Origami

unikatissima Extreme Origami

I always like to surf the net a little bit for ‘Origami’ and today I want to present two extremes: Instant Origami and the video Origami In the Pursuit of Perfection.
I had a lot of fun with the first (there is a frog, a dragon, a box and much more ;-)), the latter left me speechless, although it’s ‘only’ an advertising movie.

Let yourself inspire!

Mini Recycle Bin Books

erinzam Mini Recycle Bin Books

People who craft a lot with paper often have many interesting papers laying around, but mostly scrap you can only make cards from.
But now I found a tutorial on how to make mini recycle bin books, which I find great!

Soon I will have to comb through my piles ;-))

Kolam

gokulmuthu Random Symmetrical Kolam Generator

I discovered kolams (English Wikipedia entry for ‘Kolam’)!
They are beautiful patterns and I do like to play around with knots and the like ;-)

It all begun when I found a tutorial on how to design kolams.
Then I first checked what kolams are and via the Englisch Wikipedia entry for ‘Kolam’ I found a Random Kolam Generator Random Kolam Generator and an Interactive Kolam Maker. I wasn’t able to use the latter in an appropriate way, double click on the circles always brought different results.
I suppose that I only have to work on it a little bit more.
But I think that I will stick to the previously mentioned tutorial on how to design kolams, especially after I have seen the kolam images at Google and flickr.
And I guess that I won’t need the receipe for kolam rice flour colour (it is in German, but it is mainly one table spoon rice flour mixed with a pinch of colouring from plants or minerals and then painted with moist fingers), because I mostly use graphic programs (that’s because I can’t draw a straight line ;-)).

Spring Flower Necklace

beadjapan Spring Flower Necklace

I found a tutorial on how to make a Spring Flower Necklace.
Unfortunately I haven’t had time to make it yet, but I really want to in the future.
As you can see on the photo it has daisies just like the Beaded Daisy Chains, but they are beaded in a quite different way.

Really cute, isn’t it?
