I’m always fascinated of all those ideas that people have – just as of this juice rack: simply nail some beverage cartons to a plank and you get a coat rack.
Sheer lunacy ;-))

If you have a coat rack already or you find this one interesting but don’t want to have it at your home ;-), you can make a lot of other stuff from your beverage cartons: beverage carton crochet, a Marudai, a weaving loom, a coin purse or a vase.
I’m sure that in the course of time more will come ;-))
And if you’d like to have a coat rack but not especially from beverage cartons take a look at the Bookhooks (from my entry Recycle books).

Card Holder

Wow, an idea again that I really appreciate: take a phone book, roll it up and fix it with a ring of a nature what-so-ever and done is the card holder!

The silver coloured ring looks quite good, but I imagine that it would look as good when you wrap your card holder with wire, plastic, beautiful yarns or fabrics or when you slip a poymer clay ring over, the only thing to make sure is that you fix everything well.
And in place of the Yellow Pages you can use as well coloured ads or paper – neatly stacked – or books where you removed the cover.

Plastic Funnel

Sometimes you need a big funnel – why not cutting the top of a plastic bottle and use this?
I find this instruction great again: with little means reaching something practical and additionally recycling :)

By the way you can use those funnels, too, when pouring little beads from one container to the other, I don’t like to use my kitchen funnels for this.

Incidentally you can use up the rest of your bottle, too ;-)

Shape Book

I’ve seen some shaped books, at an exhibition e.g. in our public library and I always liked them.
Therefore I’ve been pleased to find a tutorial for shaped books – great! :))

By the way, there are folded books, too which seem to be interesting, too ;-)

Isn’t this a great idea?
A friend sent me the link to the blog where they knit with several ‘unorthodox’ materials – it’s worth a try, I find ;-)
Perhaps crocheting, too!?

By the way, you can knit with polymer clay, too, but unfortunately I didn’t find back the links except for some photos.

Fabric Scrap Scarf

Again a scarf from scraps ;-)
But this time it’s not only about scraps nor scarves: It’s about this technique, where you arrange fabric pieces and/or yarns on water-soluble sheet, where you make it ‘unslippable’ by spraying it with fabric glue where necessary, where you cover it with water-soluble sheet again and then sew more or less wildly in all directions to connect all elements with each other.
After rinsing it (thoroughly!) you get a more or less delicate fabric that you can use as scarf like on the photo, but you can also make a top top top or a one-of-a-kind vest one-of-a-kind vest poncho from.

There is even a book that shows how you can mix this technique with felting.

I really must do this once ;-)

Self-made Hairpin Lace Loom

I found two tutorials on how to make a hairpin lace loom (see links below) and because I hadn’t the appropriate material at hand (in fact that’s strange seeing all the stuff I have lying here about ;-)) I did it a little different:
I took two toilet paper tubes, cut them lengthwise, rolled them up strongly and taped them all around.
Then I pricked two metal kebeb skewers through those thick cardboard rolls: my hairpin lace loom was done!
;-)

At last I could give hairpin lace a try and it – worked.

That is to say that I haven’t read the hairpin lace instruction at stichdiva thoroughly(!) and therefore it didn’t work in the beginning.
They write ‘Insert hook under thread of topmost loop’, but for me it isn’t the topmost thread (blue arrow) but the foremost thread (red arrow).
After I took the foremost thread everything worked fine.

At the moment I don’t have the time for it but in future I will play around with hairpin lace :)

I like paper weaving and recycling, too, but I like it even better if all come together ;-)

This happens here: they had the inventive idea to glue some newspaper on beverage cartons and weave them with plastic strips to make a (non-waterproof!) vase from.
What a great idea!
