You can need jewelry clasps at every time and in every shape, I find ;-)
I presented a sliding knot before, here they’re talking more about tipps what to take into consideration if making sliding clasps and which knots can be used to make designs of your own.
And if you don’t like sliding clasps try a self-made hook and eye clasp or a beaded shank button ;-)

When I saw the drinking straw pin I thought: ‘Oh yes, I want!’ ;-)
It is quite easy: I took two different coloured drinking straws, cut them (veeery carefully!) into spirals with an X-acto knife und knotted them (not too firm) together.
This way my little ball stays in form without glue, sewing or the like.
I wanted to cut them first with scissors but I got ugly edges, the cut must be made with a really sharp cutting tool.
I find it cute as well as jewelry as well as tree ornament ;-)

I think that you can surely make them with filled I-cords, too, then they are more firm (only take care about what happens to the filling when felting with hot water!). In principle it’s what Sue suggested in her comment.
Or the whole thing may be even possible with a buttoned I-cord bracelet, where the original was made with beads. When using glass buttons or glass beads it should be no problem to felt it (but I haven’t tried it yet).
Possibly you can even use filled and felted I-cords to make a fabric bowl from?!
And when you felt some of the cords of the cute spaghetti scrap scarf it surely looks great, too.
