{"id":3343,"date":"2010-02-03T08:01:28","date_gmt":"2010-02-03T06:01:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unikatissima-e.riamore.eu\/?p=3343"},"modified":"2010-02-02T20:24:52","modified_gmt":"2010-02-02T18:24:52","slug":"paper-shopping-bag","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/unikatissima.riamore.eu\/e\/?p=3343","title":{"rendered":"Paper Shopping Bag"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"..\/uploads\/unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag.jpg\" alt=\"unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag\" width=\"350\" height=\"291\" class=\"alignleft size-medium\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"links\"><a href=\"#li100203\"><strong>Links of entry<\/strong><\/a><br \/><a href=\"#doit\"><strong>That\u2019s what you do<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"clearboth\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>At <a href=\"http:\/\/www.craftster.org\/forum\/\">craftster<\/a> started the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.craftster.org\/forum\/index.php?topic=333052.0 \">&#8216;Craft Challenge #47 &#8211; Reusable Shopping Bag Challenge 2&#8217;<\/a> and I had the idea of making a shopping bag from paper (see also the other <a href=\"http:\/\/www.craftster.org\/forum\/index.php?board=439.0\">entries<\/a>).<br \/>\nIn principle I really like it, but some things didn&#8217;t work the way I wanted them to (see also <a href=\"#problems\">below<\/a>) so that I didn&#8217;t finish the handle but only show how it can be made.<\/p>\n<div class=\"clearboth\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"..\/uploads\/unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag d.jpg\" alt=\"unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag\" width=\"350\" height=\"274\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" \/><br \/>\nThat&#8217;s how my shopping bag looks from one side&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class=\"clearboth\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"..\/uploads\/unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag e.jpg\" alt=\"unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag\" width=\"350\" height=\"272\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230; and so from the other.<br \/>\nI used clippings from a travel brochure, so my bag is not only multicoloured but gives me even wanderlust ;-)<br \/>\n<a name=\"doit\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearboth\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><em><strong>That\u2019s what you do:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearboth\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"..\/uploads\/unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag a.jpg\" alt=\"unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag\" width=\"350\" height=\"277\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" \/><br \/>\nThat&#8217;s what you need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>paper to strengthen (here an old TV guide)<\/li>\n<li>paper for the outside (here clippings from a travel brochure)<\/li>\n<li>plastic bag to strengthen the inside and make it possible to wipe it with a damp cloth (right top in picture)<\/li>\n<li>some tape and a glue stick (which I forgot to take a photo from ;-))<\/li>\n<li>scissors<\/li>\n<li>sewing thread and best a sewing machine<\/li>\n<li>possibly transparent plastic foil or plastic bag (non-adhesive or you can get bad problems with your sewing machine!)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"clearboth\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"..\/uploads\/unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag b.jpg\" alt=\"unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag\" width=\"350\" height=\"167\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" \/><br \/>\nFirst I layered three layers of my TV guide pages.<br \/>\nI used them askew as shown in the graphic so that they don&#8217;t always touch in the same place (every large rectangle is a page from the TV guide, the smaller ones are pages cut into halves in one or the other direction).<br \/>\nI taped them rarely so that the whole doesn&#8217;t fall apart.<\/p>\n<p>On the future outside I laid on the clippings from the travel brochure and glued them on rarely to fix them slightly.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/em> Don&#8217;t use too much tape or glue because you can get bad problems with your sewing machine.<\/p>\n<p>I laid the cut white plastic bag on the backside of my large paper rectangle with  meanwhile four layers and begun to sew.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/em> It pays to fix the plastic bag somehow, too ;-)<br \/>\n<a name=\"problems\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearboth\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"..\/uploads\/unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag c.jpg\" alt=\"unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag\" width=\"350\" height=\"262\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" \/><br \/>\nThen I just started sewing (did I mention that I&#8217;m completely unexperienced in sewing? ;-))).<\/p>\n<p>I wanted to sew (and have somehow sewn ;-)) lines but it was much more difficult than I thought.<br \/>\nTherefore I made a mental note of some points for the next bag:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The paper for the outside should be better joined.<br \/>\nI think it even best to lay and sew on a layer of transparent (non-adhesive!) foil or plastic bag, then it is also possible to wipe it on the outside with a damp cloth.<\/li>\n<li>Practise sewing before, so that 1st my thread doesn&#8217;t tear and I&#8217;ll be 2nd hopefully able to sew straight lines ;-)<\/li>\n<li>The crinkling happened when I rolled up my large paper rectangle several times this way and the other to be able to sew it.<br \/>\nPaper that is crinkled often get fabric-liker, so I didn&#8217;t find it bad.<\/li>\n<li>I laid the clippings from the travel brochure so that they all meet on the underside of the bag &#8211; with the effect that it looks scruffy.<br \/>\nNext time I&#8217;d put a broad stripe of coloured paper over the folding line of the bag.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>I&#8217;ve sewn the side seams on the wrong side because I wanted to turn it after just like a fabric bag.<br \/>\nNext time I will sew them from the right side because the turning was incredibly difficult and I simply couldn&#8217;t turn the corners completely.<br \/>\nThat&#8217;s why it has these chic rounded corners ;-))<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"clearboth\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"..\/uploads\/unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag f.jpg\" alt=\"unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag\" width=\"350\" height=\"262\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" \/><br \/>\nThat&#8217;s how my bag looks at the inside.<\/p>\n<div class=\"clearboth\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"..\/uploads\/unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag g.jpg\" alt=\"unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag\" width=\"350\" height=\"262\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" \/><br \/>\nActually I wanted to make a shoulder-long black with plastic bags <a href=\"?p=2356\">filled I-cord<\/a> as handle (I post-worked the photo to show you the knitting, originally it&#8217;s been completely black just as in the next photo ;-)) &#8230;<\/p>\n<div class=\"clearboth\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"..\/uploads\/unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag k.jpg\" alt=\"unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag\" width=\"350\" height=\"262\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230;but I don&#8217;t want to make it for a bag with lots of <a href=\"#problems\">defects<\/a>.<br \/>\nYou can see here anyhow how I knotted the plastic bags together and knitted a little bit already.<\/p>\n<div class=\"clearboth\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"..\/uploads\/unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag h.jpg\" alt=\"unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag\" width=\"350\" height=\"289\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" \/><br \/>\nThe bag seems to be quite robust and I wanted to try out what it can carry.<br \/>\nTherefore I stuffed 1&nbsp;l juice, half a kilo of bread, 2&nbsp;appels, an&nbsp;orange and 5&nbsp;tangerines in &#8211; in short a little shopping ;-)<\/p>\n<div class=\"clearboth\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"..\/uploads\/unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag i.jpg\" alt=\"unikatissima Paper Shopping Bag\" width=\"350\" height=\"279\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" \/><br \/>\nHere I&#8217;m holding the bag with the content of the previous picture &#8211; no problems at all ;-)<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"li100203\"><\/a><br \/>\n<em><strong>Links:<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.craftster.org\/forum\/index.php?topic=333052.0 \">Craft Challenge #47 &#8211; Reusable Shopping Bag Challenge 2<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.craftster.org\/forum\/index.php?board=439.0\">Entries for the Craft Challenge #47<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here at unikatissima:<br \/>\n<a href=\"?p=2356\">Clothesline Knitting or Filled I-cord<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Links of entryThat\u2019s what you do &nbsp; At craftster started the &#8216;Craft Challenge #47 &#8211; Reusable Shopping Bag Challenge 2&#8217; and I had the idea of making a shopping bag from paper (see also the other entries).
