Recently something took me and I thought that you can use those two-coloured charts which are usually associated with filet crochet or cross stitch for a loooot<\/em> of other techniques, too.
\nI had this idea already before, in my entries about intarsia knitting<\/a>, the cross stitch heart<\/a>, the beaded square stitch heart<\/a> and the polymer clay letter cane<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On the photo you see some letters worked in different techniques (I’m working on letter charts at the moment ;-)):
\n'u' - <\/code>Knit-Purl Knitting, each X is a purl stitch
\n'n' - <\/code>Fair Isle Knitting, each X is a white stitch
\n'i' - <\/code>Sequins Embroidery, each X is a sequin
\n'k' - <\/code>Tapestry Crochet<\/a>, each X is a white stitch
\n'a' - <\/code>Filet Crochet<\/a>, each X is a filled filet crochet square
\n't' - <\/code>Cross Stitch Embroidery<\/a> on paper, each X is a black cross stitch
\n'i' - <\/code>Loom Beading<\/a>, each X is a black bead
\n's' - <\/code>Stamping<\/a> with square stamps, each X is a black square stamp
\n's' - <\/code>Illusion Knitting<\/a>, each X is a black stitch over two rows
\n'i' - <\/code>Crochet Yoyo’s, each X is a white crochet circle from dc’s
\n'm' - <\/code>Inverted Filet Crochet, each X is a empty filet crochet square
\n'a' - <\/code>Macram\u00e9e\/Friendship Bracelet<\/a>, each X is a white knot<\/p>\n

But then I came up with more techniques and if you still have more ideas I’d be glad if you wrote a comment about.
\nI added for every technique what would be a square of the chart.
\nPlease remember:<\/strong><\/em> Not all ‘units’ are square so that the result can look quite different from the chart!<\/p>\n
