I even tried it and it worked fine. But I gave the lanterns away without taking any photos ;-(<\/p>\n<p>The instruction is in German with illustrating photos.<\/p>\n<div class=\"clearboth\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>Here is a translation:<br \/>\n<em><strong>Material:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Plastic drinking straws<\/li>\n<li>Parchment paper<\/li>\n<li>Iron<\/li>\n<li>An old wooden tray<\/li>\n<li>Scissors<\/li>\n<li>Double-sided tape<\/li>\n<li>Tealight<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>That&#8217;s what you have to do:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lay the parchment paper on your working space, perhaps lay even the old wooden tray underneath. <\/li>\n<li>Lay the plastic straws neatly on the parchment paper and lay another layer of parchment paper on it.<\/li>\n<li>Iron on highest setting, but without steam over the parchment paper on the plastic straws. The straws will melt.<\/li>\n<li>If everything became flat, let the plastic cool down. You can hear that they cool because there is a cracking noise.<\/li>\n<li>Carefully release the straws from the parchment paper.<\/li>\n<li>Cut the &#8216;mat&#8217; with the scissors in the form you want.<\/li>\n<li>Fix the ends with the tape and put a tealight into.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>What I learned when testing it:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Best iron in an well ventilated area, because there are (toxic?) vapours.<\/li>\n<li>The ironed straws are very, very hot, so make sure to let them cool down thoroughly.<\/li>\n<li>Never iron plastic directly, but put always some parchment paper between iron and plastic to protect the iron.<\/li>\n<li>Make the lantern big enough, so that it can&#8217;t inflame from being to near the flame of the tealight.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a name=\"li080920\"><\/a><br \/>\n<em><strong>Links:<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/crea-doo.com\/Content9766\">Plastic Straw Lantern (German)<\/a><br \/>\n<font color=\"white\">votive<\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Links of entry A long time ago I found a tutorial on how to make a lantern from plastic straws.
